How many 60-yard field goals have been kicked in the history of the National Football League? (2023)

17:00:60 In NFL history, there have been 17 60-yard field goals. There have been 17 field goals from 60 yards or beyond made in the league's history. Tom Dempsey hit the first 60-yard field goal in NFL history in 1970. Al Del Greco made two more before he was replaced by Jason Elam in 2003.

There have been six kickers who have scored at least one touchdown and made a 60-yard field goal during their career: Don Chandler, Dave Tollefson, Tom Dempsey, Al Del Greco, Eric Kumerow, and Daniel Carlson.

Dempsey is the only player to score a touchdown and make a 60-yard field goal in the same season three times. He did so in 1971 for the Oakland Raiders, 1979 for the San Francisco 49ers, and 1980 for the Washington Redskins.

After Demspey, no other player has managed to do this twice. The closest anyone has come is Kevin Butler who came within one game of doing it in 1998 with the New York Jets. He missed by just 33 yards (60-27).

Carlson is the most recent kicker to attempt a 60-yard field goal successfully. His team, the Atlanta Falcons, defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 24-22 in 2016.

What’s the NCAA record for a 70-yard field goal?

Nobody at the collegiate or professional levels has ever kicked a 70-yard field goal in a game. The NCAA Division I record is 67 yards (owned by four kickers); the CFL record is 62 yards (note, the CFL goal posts are at the goal line); and the NFL record is 64 yards (several kickers have also succeeded at 63 yards).

A 70-yard field goal is extremely difficult to boot because it requires a perfect swing of the foot to propel the ball through the uprights. The longest field goal in NFL history was 69 yards, set by Matt Stover of the Baltimore Ravens in 2013. It was also the highest scoring game in NFL history with 5 touchdowns being scored.

In college football, the longest field goal ever attempted was also held by Stover, who nailed a 72-yarder for his former team, the Baltimore Ravens, in 2009. That's the current NCAA record.

Stover is one of four kickers who have owned up to kicking a 70-yard field goal during some point in their career. The others are Jason Elam, Daniel Carlson, and Kai Forbath. Elam, who currently plays for the Denver Broncos, is the only one of these kickers not to have successfully completed one. He has two attempts out of bounds success and one attempt blocked.

Carlson and Forbath have both kicked successful field goals of 69 yards or more.

How far was the longest field goal in football history?

64 meters Matt Prater established the record for the longest field goal kick in NFL history on December 8, 2013. He hit all 64 yards with his kick.

The previous record was 63 yards, which was set by Jason Elam of the Denver Broncos on October 4, 2010. That game also saw Prater score a touchdown on a 67-yard kick return.

Prater's record-breaking kick came during overtime of a playoff game against the Chicago Bears. The winner would advance to the next round of the NFL playoffs.

The Detroit Lions were using their no-huddle offense during overtime and reached the 50-yard line before Prater kicked the ball. He beat out Chicago's placekicker Caleb Hanie who missed a 46-yard attempt wide left.

This was not Prater's first career playoff game. He had previously scored three touchdowns in two other postseason contests while with the Denver Broncos. His last such kick came in 2009 when he delivered all 66 yards from scrimmage in a 36-29 win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII.

Prior to joining the Broncos, Prater spent two seasons with the Buffalo Bills where he made all 56 field goal attempts.

How long was the longest successful field goal kicked by Steve Christie?

59 meters He scored 100 points or more in eight of his nine seasons with the Bills, and he established the record for the longest successful field goal (59 yards) in regular season play. His 54-yard field goal against the Cowboys in January 1994 established a Super Bowl record that still stands today.

After going 0-4 in his first five attempts, Steve Christie became a reliable kicker for the Buffalo Bills. Over his final six seasons with the team, he made at least one field goal in every game he played in and finished first in franchise history with 99 career points scored. He was inducted into the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame in 1999.

Christie's 59-yard field goal against the Dallas Cowboys on January 7, 1994 broke a record set two years earlier by Jason Elam that is still standing today. The previous record was 58 yards, which was set by Adam Vinatieri and Matt Stover over the last decade.

He earned all-league honors as a wide receiver at Central Michigan University before joining the Bills. He spent his first two seasons with the team recording just 33 percent and 26 percent success rates, respectively. But from 1990 to 1991, he improved his career mark to 88 percent by making all 105 of his field goal attempts.

In 1992, he went 9-for-9 on field goals over 50 yards, including a 57-yarder that tied an NFL record.

What is the longest field goal ever kicked in college football?

69 meters The longest field goal in college football history, as well as the longest in organized football, is 69 yards long. Ove Johansson, the kicker for Abilene Christian University, made the kick on October 16th, 1976, during the first half of ACU's homecoming game against East Texas State University. The score was tied at 10-10 at the time, and the victory sent ACU to its first postseason bowl game.

Ove Johansson had a career average of 45.5 percent from beyond 50 yards, so this kick was not only a record, but it also came very early in his career. Johansson went on to become one of the most successful placekickers in NCAA history, finishing with 170 of 200 attempts (85 percent) beyond 50 yards, second only to Matt Szczepanik's 190 of 200 (95 percent).

Johansson played only three seasons at ACU before moving on to play two more years in the NFL. He ended his career as the all-time leading scorer with 2,917 points, and he still holds several school records including most points scored in a season (1,327), most free throws made in a season (491), and highest percentage of field goals made (0.857).

The Longest Field Goal in College Football History is also held by Johansson's former teammate, Matt Szczepanik.
